Determine Your Email Settings

The following settings apply to all software products, although the exact terminology used may vary. Consult your software's help system or user manual to access the mailbox setup panels, then fill in the appropriate information.

 

Sample Input

User Name:

Choose any name that you would like to appear as the sender of any mail that you send.

Jonathan M. Doe

Email Address:

Email address assigned by Argos Networks.
Cannot contain any spaces. Note the at (@) sign in front of your domain name
Capitalization is not significant.

John_Doe@WebFolks.net

User Account for Mail Server:

Mailbox account name assigned by Argos Networks.
Use your email address.

John_Doe@WebFolks.net

Mailbox Password:

6 character password assigned by Argos Networks
Use exact capitalization!

 

Incoming Mail (POP3/IMAP4) Server:

Internet address assigned by Argos Networks
Capitalization is not significant

pop.WebFolks.net

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:

Assigned by your current Internet Service Provider
Capitalization is not significant

mail.CompuServe.com

Mail Protocol:

POP3

Mail is downloaded to your PC's hard disk and then deleted on the server. This prevents the mailbox from running full.
Most frequently chosen option for a user's primary PC (such as your office workstation).

IMAP4

Mail is viewed on your PC, but never copied to your local disk. Messages can be kept on the server so that they can be referred to again later. You need to keep a close eye on your mailbox space!
This is a popular option for a second PC (such as a laptop or the PC at home).

Web Messaging

Mail is viewed with any browser. Does not require any mail software. Messages can be kept on the server so that they can be referred to again later. You need to keep a close eye on your mailbox space!
This is a popular option while travelling.
